Diffusion of Japanese Sports Anime in France: Assessment and Review of Issues
Main Article Content
Abstract
In the late 1980s and during the 1990s, in France, Japanese sports-themed animated films were very popular among French children, to such an extent that French youth enrolments in certain sports clubs significantly increased. This phenomenon occurred in spite of the substantial differences between Japanese and French sport cultures; for example in Japan, sports are considered as a way of practicing discipline, while in France it is viewed as a recreational activity. This article examines our quantitative analysis of sports-themed animated films produced in Japan and assesses the impact of these animated films broadcast in France. Further, we will evaluate previous works on this topic with the aim of proposing new approaches for future academic projects.
